Festival Season and PRIDE Celebrations

Lots going on this season and we are thrilled to be playing at several regional and national festivals and celebrations. So get our your calendars, tell your pals in other cities, get ready for a road trip, pack your tent and sleeping bag, make your reservations – it’s off to play!

First on the list – Midwest Wimmin’s Festival – Lake of the Ozarks State Park – May 15-20
Cabins with bathrooms, accessible physically and financially, all vegetarian meals included, laid back, private dock, dance, bonfires, workshops, drumming, crafts, you know, festival stuff!! www.midwestfestival.com

Next – Heartland Pagan Festival – McClouth, KS – May 24-28
168 acres of private pagan land, all genders festival, tenting or cabins, huge bonfires, rituals, vendors, workshops, lots and lots of drumming, meal plan, private lake. BBG plays a noon show on Friday and will be heading up the Bardic Circle every evening. www.kchsa.org

Then PRIDE month. June is Pride for most states unless you’re in Texas, it’s just too hot!

Then to top off the month, we’ll be heading to Madison, WI for the National Women’s Music Festival June 28-July 1. We will play Main Stage Sat. night right between Kay Gardner’s Rainbow Path Tribute and Toshi Reagon! OMG! Over 18 performances on multiple stages. www.wiaonline.org

Spring Diversity and Womyn’s Music Weekend

Here’s the plan: Oh is it ever spring! Plan on a weekend outing in Eureka Springs for Spring Diversity this weekend April 6-8 with 4 great acts, 9 shows, 2 DJ dances, a drumming circle, and a whole program of other activities! (full schedule on www.facebook.com/outineureka)

Here’s the deal:

Vou “Lez” Vous Lounge is hosting 4 womyn’s acts who will play twice throughout the weekend charging $5 daily and that includes re-entry all day for that day. For a weekend wrist band, it’s $15 for any show all weekend.

BBG Marches On! Full March Schedule

March starts our touring and festival season and is so full of activity starting this weekend in Eureka Springs. This Fri. and Sat. March 2 and 3 join us at the Voulez Vous Lounge at 8pm as BBG celebrates our 3rd anniversary of making music together and hosts a halfway to Mich Fest party. Those of you who haven’t heard, BBG has been selected to perform Friday Day Stage at this year’s Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival in August! Also this Sat. at the Voulez Vous wear your leather if you got it to celebrate leather pride. And this Sunday, March 4th at 4pm, we’ll be rockin’ the rock stage for Happy Hour at New Delhi Indian Cafe and 3 story patio!! It’s awesome – the second level has it’s own cash bar and the 3rd level is open air and sits directly across from Basin Park. New Delhi – where happy people meet, where the locals play! All shows this weekend are no cover.

The 2nd weekend of March is on the road in Indianapolis 3/9 and Cincinnati 3/10 in support of the National Women’s Music Festival (held the last weekend of June in Madison, WI.) In Indy and Cinci, we’ll be meeting up with women we met at last year’s festival including Jen Weber on cello in Indy; Shelley Graff and dorrie andermills who will open the set in Cinci, and sign language interpreter extraordinare, Ruth Rowan. The 3rd weekend in March takes us to KC, MO to double bill with the gorgeous and hilarious Suzanne Westenhoefer – I hear she’s single now and raring to talk about it! This event will be held at the beautiful, historic Drexel Hall in midtown Sat. March 17th at 7pm. Produced by Willow Productions in support of the National Women’s Music Festival! MICHIGAN!!!! HERE WE COME!!!! We are so honored and elated to be playing one of the longest running women’s culture and music festivals. We are thankful to each and every one of you who encouraged us, put in good words for us, danced and sang with us, believed in us, sponsored us, and took us home with you (CD form of course….), and so grateful for all the ways each of you have shown your enthusiasm, your energy, and your generosity. Big Bad Gina wins grand prize in HRC’s Battle of the Bands in K.C. MO

Blazing head first into 2012!! What an incredible weekend in Kansas City. Big Bad Thank Yous to our NW Arkansas friends who made the road trip to help support the band and the cause. And Big Giant Thank Yous to ALL our K.C. friends who helped load the gear and unload the gear and load the gear and unload the gear in record time. Special thanks to Linda Wilson who let us host and program her radio show Woman Song on KKFI (www.kkfi.org). Thanks to all who tuned in and enjoyed the music with us.
We’re so proud and honored to be part of HRC’s (Human Rights Campaign) mission of fighting and advocating for LGBT rights and equality for all. It’s been reported that our K.C. event raised over $8000! (www.hrg.org) There’s more in the works and we networked with so many great peeps and awesome performers, like Summer Osborne who won the acoustic stage and with whom we will be collaborating at Spring Diversity in Eureka Springs. We’ll be back in K.C.before you know it, tearing the roof off!

Can you believe it?! It’s 2012! We brought it in with a big bad bang in Eureka Springs. Huge shout out to ALL of you who attended and especially those of you who waited in line for up to and over an hour…..HUGE THANKS and what persistence! It wouldn’t have been the same without you. Thanks to the Voulez Vous Lounge and all the hard work to make the event a success. Sure hope you all got some of those hors d’oeuvres they served at midnight…..tasty vittles. And how ’bout all those soulful special guests: S.J. Tucker (Sooj), Ginger Doss, Oxygen Edge, and Bekah Kelso bringing their powerhouse talents to the party!! ……would somebody “Say Something” already……how bout wooooohoooooo!

Our 2012 schedule is shaping up and we’re taking to the road more weekends than not. But stay tuned and we’ll keep you in the know. And just so you know, Big Bad Gina is heading to K.C. Jan. 14-15 to host Woman Song with Linda Wilson Saturday from 11am-1pm on KKFI 90.1 FM (live streaming too at www.kkfi.org) and THEN Sunday Jan. 15, we’ll be competing in the Human Rights Campaign’s Battle of the Bands – Babe version!! It’s a benefit for HRC and tickets are $20 at the door. There will be an audience vote (based on donations) and a panel of judges for the final decision. Immense and profound thanks to our private sponsors for the means necessary to upgrade our sound system and vehicle. After our board blew, and one of our speakers went on the blitz, and the van broke down, it became apparent that we needed new equipment and a way to get everything there. We are humbled and grateful beyond belief to our sponsors for their generosity and support. We strive to pay it forward with muse, music, magic, and by living the mission!

The Big Bad Ginas are now the proud owners of a new/used V8 conversion van complete with towing package, a new sound board with powered speakers, and heavy duty speaker stands. Watch out world! Here comes Big Bad Gina and yes, we have a mission!

KKFI Rox and Holidaze!

Big radio voice shout out and thank you to Linda Wilson of Woman Song on Kansas City’s Community Radio KKFI 90.1FM for letting us host her show on Sat. Nov. 12. It was a dream come true for aspiring DJ Sistah JoJo! We let it all out in the studio and brought KC our favorite sistah collaborators – with the likes of Ginger Doss, Bekah Kelso, Christy Lindsay, Oxygen Edge, and S.J. Tucker (Sooj)) – (we tried to play Niki O’Brien’s “Gender Outlaw” from the 2011 Goddess Festival CD but KKFI has a strict rule about the word “t*ts”…..imagine that…)

So time for the holidaze already. In fact, let’s start this Sat. Nov. 19 at Scarpino – 7pm show time!…..and then hold off on the Thanksgiving leftovers and head to Eureka Springs’ Voulez Vous Lounge Fri. Nov. 25th, Black Friday, from 9-midnight for some hot and fresh music with Sistah Sooj – S.J. Tucker! We will combine musical magical forces bringing you frolickin’, funkin, rappin’, snappin’, pixie punky, smokin’ folkin’ tunes and then some!!! Way hot, way new, way fun, you gotta be there!
